Israel's strategic partnership with India in agriculture & water

Committed to working with India on its most significant development projects, Israel continues to expand cooperation with all of its partners, strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

 

The head of MASHAV, Israel, has returned from a seven-day visit to India. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the Israel-India strategic partnership and development cooperation in agriculture and water.

 

  1. Highlights: 

From June 10 to June 16, 2022, Ambassador Eynat Shlein, Head of MASHAV-Agency Israel's for International Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, concluded an official visit to India. 

 

The tour aimed to further solidify Israel-India strategic alliance and collaboration in the fields of agriculture and water management.

Heading towards the same goal, Ms. Eynat Shlein, the head of MASHAV, travelled Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during her visit to India. She met with senior government officials and local farmers, as well as visiting Indo-Israeli Centers of Excellence, which were established as part of the Indo-Israel Agricultural Project (IIAP).

 

In Lucknow, she held a bilateral meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during which both sides discussed enhancing existing cooperation and future joint projects in water management and agriculture.

 

The signing of a joint declaration in the field of integrated water resource management and capacity building between the State of Israel and the Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Government of Haryana, India was one of the main highlights of this visit. 

 

As part of this joint declaration, Israel will provide knowledge, training programmes, and Israeli technologies for the development of Haryana in the water management sector.

 

  1. Benefits:

  • Israel currently has 29 fully operational Indo-Israeli Centers of Excellence in various parts of India, benefiting millions of Indian farmers daily. Thirteen more such facilities are in the works. These centres will be gradually expanded into 'Villages of Excellence in collaboration with local state governments, benefiting larger populations.

 

  • Israel is also providing support and expertise to India in water management and agriculture. Israeli experts are helping India develop projects that maximize the use of local water resources while also developing sustainable irrigation methods and increasing agricultural productivity. 

 

  • In addition, Israel shares its experience with India on urban water management to help cities solve their problems related to water usage.

 

  • India is also working closely with Israeli companies on projects that reduce the impact of climate change and promote sustainable agriculture. These companies are helping India to increase food production, develop better crop varieties, and improve water management in rural areas. Through these initiatives, Israel hopes to contribute significantly to India's development.

 

  • This project aims to facilitate agricultural exchanges between the two countries, boost innovation, and develop new technology.
